A Calgary Family Business

Come by the shop and you'll be greeted by a member of the Cates family. You might see  Jonathan working "from home",  Kelly keeping everyone in line, or Nicole doing... a wide variety of things. No matter who you see first, you're nearly guaranteed to see our owner/designer/welder Darin.

Darin has been working in the metal fabrication and manufacturing business for 35 years and his gears are always turning. He might be thinking of a creative solution to a customer request, or dreaming up a new product. Or, more likely, he's dreaming of the snow covered mountains and taking his snowmobile out for a rip when he gets a day off! No matter what he does though, Darin always wants it to be perfect so you can trust him to treat your job with care and finesse. 

 At Nortruck Manufacturing and Distributing, Darin started sweeping floors and grew his career alongside the company.  Darin eventually worked his way to being the Production Manager of Nortruck which allowed him to spend more time designing products and systems instead of building. Even though he never worked in sales, nearly every customer knew him and his attention to detail. He's now back to welding for 5052. It's a change of pace from the long-time career he had with Nortruck, but Darin is very thankful to get to keep manufacturing products in Calgary that are the best on the market and always distinct.
